Lien Michiels is a PhD student in the Adrem Data Lab in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Antwerp. Her research focuses on diversity, discovery and filter bubbles in recommender systems. Previously, she worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Froomle.

Annelien Smets is Research Professor Digital Economics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and senior researcher at SMIT (Studies in Media, Innovation and Technology). She investigates recommender systems and their value in media markets.

Jefrey Lijffijt is Professor of Data Science, Knowledge Discovery and Visual Analytics at the AIDA (Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics) group at Ghent University at the Department of Electronics and Information Systems. Jefrey is also Academic Expert at the Flemish AI Academy.

Bart Goethals is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Antwerp and head of the Adrem Data Lab. He is also a co-founder of Froomle who provide their recommendation platform as a service to media companies around the globe.

Jens Leysen is a PhD student at the University of Antwerp’s Department of Computer Science. His general research interests are related to data science, recommender systems, and responsible AI. Before starting his PhD, Jens obtained an MSc in Engineering Technology from KU Leuven and an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Antwerp.

Brett Binst is a PhD student at research group SMIT at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. With a background in psychology and sociology, Brett studies user experiences of recommender systems and how these systems can foster serendipitous encounters.
